HYBRID PROPULSION · VOLVO PENTA

Two energy sources.
One integrated project.

Hybrid propulsion combines combustion and electric power. With IPS Hybrid, Volvo Penta brings engines, IPS propulsion, energy storage and controls together in an integrated architecture.

For a yacht or commercial vessel, the starting point is how it operates: manoeuvring, time at low speed, routes, onboard energy needs and charging opportunities.

THE RIGHT ENERGY FOR EACH PHASE

Manoeuvre. Cruise.
Manage energy.

Electric operation

When running on batteries, electric propulsion produces no exhaust emissions and reduces noise. Range depends on the vessel, batteries and operating profile.

Hybrid operation

Combustion and electric power are controlled according to the selected mode and propulsion requirements. Volvo Penta provides different modes to adapt energy use to operating phases.

Integrated control

The helm brings propulsion and energy information together. Charging, battery status and power flow provide useful information for the skipper.

Fuel savings and time in electric operation are assessed for each project. Hybridisation is not simply an EVC option activation: it involves propulsion architecture, energy systems and onboard integration.

YOUR PROJECT WITH AMP

Start with your needs.
Define the right solution.

01

Define the operating profile

We discuss routes, speeds, operating hours and onboard needs. These details provide a basis for realistic objectives.

02

Assess feasibility

Available space, weight, batteries, cooling, charging and existing propulsion must be considered together. The solution and its availability must be confirmed with Volvo Penta for the vessel and project.

03

Define the next steps

We help define the equipment, modifications and specialists required before any decision. The suitability of hybrid propulsion is also considered against conventional repowering.
